Role Held: Communications Coordinator; Intern.  2023–2024

The Material Innovation Initiative (MII) is a nonprofit think tank that helped ignite and continues to foster the industry ecosystem of next-generation biomaterials (textiles).

I contributed to communications and content strategy as the communications assistant, supporting the development and promotion of detailed reports aimed at investors, policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Strategy

I supported a content and communications approach focused on:

Thought leadership positioning: producing high-quality, insight-driven reports
Content amplification: repurposing long-form research into accessible digital content
Audience targeting: tailoring messaging for investors, NGOs, media and policymakers
Multi-channel distribution: leveraging social media, email and external platforms to maximise reach

Execution

  • Contributed to the writing, editing and production of 10+ industry reports

  • Led the end-to-end development of a key report: “Why to Invest in Next-Gen Materials”

  • Repurposed report content into social posts, infographics and promotional assets

  • Supported campaign execution across LinkedIn, Instagram and email

  • Managed metrics tracking and performance insights, including audience engagement and media reach

  • Collaborated cross-functionally with internal teams and external designers

What I Learnt

  1. To move investors and prospects from awareness to action faster it’s vital to shorten time-to-understanding for complex, technical topics by pairing plain-English narratives with simple visuals.
     

  2. Strategic content repurposing and distribution is critical to maximising the value of research and meeting the organisational mission and attracting more donors.
     

  3. Thought leadership content creates credibility and visibility, opening the door to positive impact.
